Starbucks & Apple

Customers at Starbucks often ask "what song is now playing"? A simple question that often times went unanswered. To solve for this, Starbucks partnered with Apple to produce Now Playing, which is a complex, distributed web based application that allows you to see what's now playing in your store and also to purchase the song via iTunes on your Mac or PC.

This was a massive project that is both a web-based application but also a kiosk style LCD screen. We developed a flexible and highly extensible architecture that would allow for a .NET controller to interact with a Flash front-end visualizer. We then worked with Apple to create a suite of web services that would interact with store data and allow you to see, in real time, what's playing in your store via iTunes.
